Description
CLASS DESCRIPTION: In this class you will use techniques like turned-edge applique, yarn couching and free motion sewing as well as using your sewing machine to sew buttonholes and attach buttons. Note: if you are not interested in making a calendar holder, you can use this project as a wall hanging, door decoration or turn it into a quilt block.

Basic sewing supplies
· Sewing machine in good working order (You will need to bring a general sewing foot as
well as other presser feet as noted under “Project Supplies”.)
· Your sewing machine’s manual
· Fabric scissors (sharp scissors for cutting out applique pieces are recommended)
· Small scissors or snips to cut threads
· Rotary cutter (optional, but recommended)
· Seam ripper
· Fabric marker, pen or marking chalk
· Pins or Wonder Clips (Wonder Clips are optional, but recommended)
· Ruler
U Universal sewing machine needles, size 80/12 Universal and 90/14 Topstitch Needles
· Bobbins
· Coordinating good quality all-purpose thread (polyester or cotton)

· (1) 14” x 8 ½” piece of light-colored quilt weight cotton fabric for upper
background + (1) 6” x 6” scrap of background fabric to make hanging tabs
· (1) 14” x 6” piece of brown quilt weight cotton fabric for lower background
· (1) 14” x 13 ½” piece of quilt weight cotton for back side of calendar holder
· (1) 12” x 6” piece of yellow fabric for fringe flowers
· (1) 21” x 1 ½” strip of green fabric for flower bases
· (2) 8” x 8” pieces of green fabric for leaves
· (1) 5” x 5” piece of fabric for pumpkin stems
· (1) ¼ yard or fat quarter lighter orange fabric for pumpkin

· Sulky 12 weight Cotton Blendables thread that coordinates with yarn
· Coordinating good quality all-purpose sewing thread (polyester or cotton) for sewing and
topstitching on the background fabrics
· Decorative/embroidery thread in coordinating colors for applique and free motion sewing.
· 3 coordinating buttons (if making a calendar holder)

· Non-Stick Applique Pressing Sheet

P **Students must come to class with fabric and materials already cut to the designated
sizes. Class time has been allotted for instruction and sewing.
