Size 90 topstitch needles
Embroidery thread for free motion sewing (colors should coordinate with the elements in your scene)

(2) 9" x 17" base fabric pieces (white or off-white Kona cotton – wash, dry, press – DO NOT starch fabric): one will be for practice, one for the actual project

Several 10" x 18" pieces of muslin fabric (1 yd muslin will give you enough pieces) – these will be used to absorb excess wax and dye during ironing
