In this class, students will create a quilted wall hanging of a still life scene. Students will use crayons to transfer dye to their fabric and create shading on their art piece. They will also learn how to build a scene using fabric “snippets” and receive an introduction to free-motion quilting. Finished size of this project: approximately 14″ x 22″ with borders. Beginner – Advanced sewer. Two-part class. $89

Sewing machine in good working order, power cord, foot control, manual

All purpose presser foot

1/4" piecing foot

Free motion presser foot

Walking foot, (optional, but recommended)

Size 90 topstitch needles

Embroidery thread for free motion sewing (colors should coordinate with the elements in your scene)

Thread for free motion sewing, attaching borders and binding (colors should coordinate with the elements in your scene and border and binding)

(2) 9" x 17" base fabric pieces (white or off-white Kona cotton – wash, dry, press – DO NOT starch fabric): one will be for practice, one for the actual project

(2) 9" x 17" Perfect Stick stabilizer (one for practice, one for project)

Several 10" x 18" pieces of muslin fabric (1 yd muslin will give you enough pieces) – these will be used to absorb excess wax and dye during ironing

5" squares of various fabrics to be used for flowers, leaves, stems, vase, background bricks, ground (tonal or batik will work well)

Border fabric: Inner border: (2) 18" x 1 1/4" strips and (2) 13" x 1 1/4" strips; Outer border: (2) 19" x 2 1/2" strips and (2) 15" x 2 1/2" strips

16" x 24" piece of batting

16" x 24" piece of backing fabric

16" x 24" piece of No-Show Mesh stabilizer

(2) 2 1/4" x WOF strips for binding

Lite Steam-A-Seam 2 Double Stick Lite Fusible Web–several sheets or approximately 1/2 yd
