This workshop is for you:

This unique 3 day hands-on serger workshop begins by walking you through the basics of the serger and its use. It is designed for both beginner and more advanced sewists.
You will be creating your very own “Spectacular Serger Reference Library”containing step-by-step instructionsand35+ samples stitched during the class.
You will learn how to incorporate the use of the “on-board” machine features & the variety of stitches options with both regular and decorative threads. In addition you will learn how to use some of the additional presser feet/accessories that are available.
The fabric & trim package will be provided for making your sample sew outs. Samples & ideas for applications in Home Décor, Quilting as well Clothing & Crafting will be shared throughout the event and so much more!
Here is just a “taste” of what you will learn and do:
Basics: How the serger works, threads & needles, working with regular & specialty fabrics…
Threading & Use of Stitches: 5/4-thread, The Wave, Rolled Hem, Flat locking, Chain Stitch and the Cover Stitch…
Techniques: Starting & Stopping, Turning Corners – in & out, Curves, Trims & Lace (using purchased & creating your own,) Spaghetti Straps, Zipper application, Cording creation & insertion, Perfect Piecing, “Shadow” work, Pin tucks & Rouching, Lettuce Edges, Seam Finishes (more traditional & decorative), Creating your own Accent Fabric…
Decorative Threads: such as Décor 6/7, Candlelight, Pearl Crown Rayon, Glamour, Wooly Nylon/Stretchy Polyester, 12wt Cotton Thread…
Feet & Accessories: Clear Foot, Gathering Foot, Elastic Foot, Lace Applicator, Cording, Binders and others…
The fee will include all of your supplies and binder to create your own personal “Spectacular Serger Reference Library” A serger will be provided for you to use for the duration of the event. Lunch and snacks will be provided.
Bio: Independent Machine Expert & Designer, Karen Clancy brings 20+ sewing industry experience to the classroom. A lifelong sewer with a passion for all things creative, she loves to combine the traditional with the new and exciting! Having studied both fashion & interior design, worked for several sewing machine and fabric retailers as well as a major distributor, she combines her diverse experience with her passion for teaching, sewing & travel running her business “Karen Claire designs,” where she creates and alters clothing, home décor, accessories, etc for private clients, has sewn for the small stage and the big screen and shares her vast knowledge with students around the country.
Karen (Claire is her middle name) brings a certain practical approach to the classroom, but REALLY mixes it up and bends the rules when she steps into the world of machines & fabric! Her classes and workshops are fun and informative and regardless of the type(s) of “sewing” you do or wish to do, you are sure to be inspired, take away great information and learn something new!
If you would prefer to bring your own lunch, you can deduct $20 from fee. BabyLock Triumph or Ovation owners bring their machines to event.
