Sewing Classes in Bordentown

Stony Brook Sew & Vac is committed to supporting sewing enthusiasts in our community. We love to help people learn more about this hobby! We offer a number of different educational opportunities in our on-site classroom and make sure people of all ages and skill levels can find a class that fits their needs and interests.

Types of Classes we Offer

Our skilled team is excited to share our broad selection of classes. With hands-on courses that walk students through every step of a sewing project to in-depth classes that dive deep into the specific intricacies of software, we offer the perfect class for everyone! The courses we offer include instruction in basic and advanced sewing skills and serging for beginners and experienced students. Quilting and embroidery classes are also scheduled, with courses focusing on beginner skills or advanced techniques.

Summer Programs

Youngsters between the ages of 10 and 18 can attend a special sewing camp, held for a full day during school vacation. Our summer program includes hands-on learning and professional instruction to help each pupil complete a project. Each child that registers will receive a list of supplies and the book title, which will be used for in-class learning.

Young Sewers

Do you have a kid with an interest in sewing? We also host a Kids Basic Sewing Machine class. This two-hour class is designed to give beginning sewing enthusiasts a chance to make a project under the guidance and supervision of one of our instructors. The class tuition includes all of the materials necessary to complete the project.

Non-Sewing Classes

Stony Brook Sew & Vac also offers non-sewing classes! The Brother Scan-N-Cut technique is a popular hobby. Signing up for this class gives students an opportunity to practice this fun technique.

Our shop also schedules events throughout the year which gives attendees a chance to spend the day creating with machines provided by the retailer. We teach our students a variety of techniques, sewing and embroidery projects. The Row by Row Bordentown event involves free distribution of a sewing kit during a specific period.

With individual sewing spaces provided for each student and extensive opportunities for learning, Stony Brook Sew & Vac and all of our employees are eager to share this learning experience with sewing enthusiasts or anyone wishing to learn more about the hobby!

Class Policies

Class Registration: All sewing classes and events must be pre-registered and paid at least one week in advance to hold your space. To provide quality education to each student, many classes have a limited number of seats available.  Registration may be done in person, by phone or on-line using a credit card, check or cash. To help prevent class cancellations, students are encouraged to register early.  So we can have everything ready for you and the other students, registration for a sewing class closes one week before a scheduled class. This allows us to make appropriate preparations and offer an available spot to other students who may be on the wait list. In the event you wish to bring someone with you to class, a separate class registration for that person is required.

Class Cancellation Policy: If Stony Brook Sew & Vac cancels a class due to low enrollment, teacher emergency or inclement weather, students will be notified by telephone or email. You will receive a refund of your payment for the class or credit to be used towards another class.

If you must cancel, kindly notify Stony Brook Sew & Vac via email or phone call to the store a minimum of one week before class for a full refund or store credit. NO refund (including kit fees) will be given if you cancel less than a week before class. Not showing up for a class forfeits any refund or exchange (including kit fees).  No exceptions are made for the policy.

Class Supplies: Once you have registered for a class you will be emailed a list of supplies needed for the class. All supplies should be purchased prior to the day the class begins. Class time cannot be used to purchase supplies. All supplies and fabric are available at Stony Brook Sew & Vac. We are available to assist you with the selection of class supplies. In appreciation, students receive a 10% discount on all class supplies purchased at Stony Brook Sew & Vac. Due to copyright laws, if a book, pattern or embroidery design is required for a class, each student must purchase their own copy. There are no exceptions. Students should bring their own sewing machine with all of the appropriate parts (including the instruction manual, foot control and  power cord). The student must be familiar with its basic operation (i.e. winding a bobbin and threading the machine) , and the machine must be in good working condition. Alternatively, a student may pre-register to rent a sewing machine for creative classes for $15 per class session. A student who experiences great difficulty with their sewing machine during class will need to rent a machine. It is critical for classroom time to focus on the class project. Therefore, minimal time is available for troubleshooting machine problems.

Please be considerate of others. Do not bring children to class, wear heavy perfume or use cell phones during class. Please be on time for class or better yet, come 15 minutes early to set up your sewing space. Classes begin and end promptly at the scheduled time.
